3D Laser Profile Measuring Instruments, also known as external profile sensors. The laser triangulation principle is used to collect two-dimensional contour information on different material surfaces. The laser beam is amplified by a special lens set to form a static laser line that is projected onto the surface of the measured object. The laser line is diffusely reflected on the surface and the reflected light is projected onto the sensitive sensor matrix through a high-quality optical system. In addition to the distance information from the sensor to the measured surface (Z-axis), the controller can also calculate the position information along the laser line (X-axis) from the image information. The profilometer measurement outputs a set of two-dimensional co-ordinate values in a two-dimensional co-ordinate system with the sensor as the centre of origin.

The laser triangulation principle is used to collect two-dimensional contour information on different material surfaces. The laser beam is amplified by a special lens set to form a static laser line that is projected onto the surface of the measured object. The laser line is diffusely reflected on the surface and the reflected light is projected onto the sensitive sensor matrix through a high-quality optical system. In addition to the distance information from the sensor to the measured surface (Z-axis), the controller can also calculate the position information along the laser line (X-axis) from the image information. The profilometer measurement outputs a set of two-dimensional co-ordinate values in a two-dimensional co-ordinate system with the sensor as the centre of origin.
