A polarisation separator is a combination of polarisation beam separators instead of conventional polarisers, so that the output of the filter becomes two beams of polarised light whose vibrations are perpendicular to each other and whose spectra are complementary to each other, i.e. two channels are produced. A polarisation separator is a combination of polarisation beam separators instead of conventional polarisers, so that the output of the filter becomes two beams of polarised light whose vibrations are perpendicular to each other and whose spectra are complementary to each other, i.e. two channels are produced. When this stage is used in succession it produces a multi-channel birefringent filter, and when the transmission bands of each channel are distributed continuously in the spectral region near the spectral line, it produces a new type of video spectrometer.
